Stonewood Construction owes all of our success to the hard work and devotion of our employees. We seek quality individuals who bring a unique background to our company. We find that we're better served by allowing each of our supervisors to bring their own individual approach to your project while presenting a consistent process to every job through communication and dedication to your needs. We've also found that the assembly of this team has created some very close friendships as a by-product of our work. As friends and co-workers, you'll find the end result successfully delivered by folks who care about both your project and the company they work for. Please spend some time perusing the profiles of our management team. We're proud to have these fine folks in our employ.
Clark Schaefer, Owner and Estimator for Stonewood Construction, has a lengthy resume in the construction world dating back to his earliest years. As a young child, Clark learned carpentry by helping both his father and grandfather build commercial wooden fishing boats. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a double major in English and History, Clark looked to the Construction Industry to become an entrepreneur in a business he knew and loved. Clark is the initial contact with clients, using his knowledge of building to produce estimates, budgets and ideas for every type of project. Clark's expertise allows the client to develop their own ideas with respect to family lifestyle, budget and practicality. With Clark's help, the design process begins. Clark's personal motto is "if you can dream it, we can build it"! Upon your initial meeting with Clark you'll know you have chosen the right company. Clark's interests include world travel, fishing, hunting and skiing.

Josh Shafer, General Manager, started as a Project Supervisor for Stonewood in March of 2000. After earning a degree in English from the University of Oregon, Josh chose construction over a career in education and opened his own tile-setting and finish carpentry business directly after graduation. After learning what it took to run a small business, Josh gladly accepted the offer to join Stonewood and step back from the responsibility of having his own business. Two and a half years later, he accepted the promotion to General Manager, and the responsibility to run a business again, this time, better armed with more skills and experience. Josh wears many hats at Stonewood and is affectionately known as the "Fire Chief". Lately, with the help and experience of the rest of the management team, the "fires" have become fewer and farther between. Josh is a fisherman, golfer (two-time company tournament champion), gardener and avid cook.

Jake Shafer, Project Supervisor, joined Stonewood in April of 2000, as a part time employee during his undergraduate work at the University of Oregon. Jake is one of the few at Stonewood who has worked his way from the bottom floor to the top, providing an interesting and valuable perspective to our company. After graduation with a degree in Political Science and completion of a year-long internship at Governor Kitzhaber's Natural Resource Office, Jake left Oregon politics and returned to Stonewood (we begged him) to ply his skills and learn the job of Project Supervisor. In addition to providing quality work on a timely basis, Jake goes out of his way to make our clients comfortable. Jake is an avid fisherman, sports fan and continues to volunteer his time for the political causes he believes in. He is also our most eligible bachelor.

Steve Ritter, Project Supervisor,
has been with Stonewood since the spring of 2001. Steve learned construction from a salty contractor on the Oregon Coast. He was taught to do the work correctly; no matter the time allotted or needed, and has never wavered from his commitment to provide unsurpassed quality of work and attention to the finest detail. Steve earned a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology from the University of Oregon, yet continued to find himself drawn to and satisfied by the challenges and success offered by the construction industry. Steve's motto is a simple one: "Everyone deserves tight miters!" You'll rarely find Steve without his Black Lab, "Nea", or far from the mountain bike trail while he's not at work.

Ryan Deiro, Project Supervisor,
is the latest addition to Stonewood's team. Ryan grew up in Boise, Idaho where he attended Boise State University. During this time, Ryan played on the men's golf team while studying in the field of fine arts. After college, Ryan moved to Brooklyn where he pursued his interest in Historical Restoration Carpentry. With the help of a childhood friend, the pair went on to open their own business in repairing, refinishing and refurbishing old Brownstone apartment interiors. Ryan and his wife eventually tired of the big city and decided to move west. Seeking a calmer and simpler life, he worked at a native plant nursery outside of town. In October of 2005, to Stonewoods gain, Ryan returned to construction and joined the supervisory team. Ryan dreams of living off the grid on an entirely sustainable, self sufficient farm.

Mark Rolland, Journeyman and Manager of the Paint Crew, has been a critical part of the Stonewood team since early 2000. Mark grew up in Chicago and London before coming to Eugene to obtain an education in Anthropology at the University of Oregon. As the paint crew delivers its finishing touches to all of their projects, Mark's final nod of approval ensures satisfaction by all of our customers. Mark is a man of well chosen, however few words and a subtle sense of humor. Mark lives with his wife, Terri, and his daughter in a log cabin deep in the woods southwest of Drain. Mark's property and family keep him well occupied during his time off of work.

Laureen Youngblood, Office Manager and Interior Designer, is our newest addition to the Management team at Stonewood. Since joining Stonewood in the middle of 2005, Laureen has revamped Stonewood's organizational systems for the better. While all our effort was placed in work that occurred on the jobsite, Laureen has breathed fresh life into dealing with project leads, project estimates and quotes and purchasing as well as a method to track, schedule and analyze all the facets of our projects. Laureen's education and training in Design (a Bachelor of Arts in Art, with minors in Interior Architecture and Architecture History from the University of Oregon) now allow us to offer in-house design services. Laureen's approach to design is refreshing, too: she aims to design what you want, with an eye toward the aesthetic as well as the budget and practicality of use. Off the clock, Laureen enjoys photography, camping and biking with her family.
